The Pagala and Maya kids have been learning about the different senses and body parts for Science. To help learn how to take care of them, Dr. Michelle Lopez-Dee-Reyes visited the grade 1 kids yesterday, July 19, 2010.

Dr. Michelle talked about the importance of some health practices and how to prevent c0ntracting and spreading illnesses.
So what did the kids learn yesterday? Ultimately, it was how to love their bodies.

And how do we love our body? Let us count the ways:
1. It is important to wash your hands everyday, and not just before and after meals. We learned to wash our palms, the back of our hands and our nails. Washing should be 30 seconds long.
2. Achoo!! Hands should not be used for sneezing, unless there is a handkerchief or a tissue available. No tissue or hanky? Sneeze first on the inside of your elbow, then wash up afterwards.
3. Have a boo boo? Wash with soap and water then put Betadine.
4. Cleaning ears should NOT be done everyday. Twice a week is enough. Ask your mom to help you to avoid damaging your ears.
5. Brushing your teeth should take about a minute. How long is more important that how many times you do.
These are just some of the things we learned from Dr. Michelle. The kids asked their health-related questions too, which the doctor happily answered.
Everyone had fun sharing what they knew and learning more about the body.
